About This Site

Big Field was the name given to the largest of the farmed fields Waddesdon Estate in the early 18 Century, belonging to the Rothschild family. When an airstrip was envisaged in the field adjacent to Westcott Lodge, no better name could be coined for it than "Bigfield Airstrip". The strip is privately operated and the conditions of use can be viewed by clicking on the "chart" icon on this website. The purpose of the met station is to provide basic weather information for fixed wing and rotary users of the strip and also for balloonists in the local areas to enable them to obtain an unofficial METAR for Bigfield Airstrip for planning purposes. A webcam facility will be embodied in due course..
